Duffour Jnr has announced his intention to run in the NDC parliamentary primaries for the Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency in the Ashanti Region, setting up a potentially contentious battle with the incumbent MP Alex Adomako Mensah, who is also a relative.
Duffour Jnr and his father, Dr. Duffour Snr, are both vying for important positions within the NDC. Dr. Duffour Snr is challenging John Mahama for the party’s flagbearership. However, both Duffours, along with seven other individuals, are facing criminal prosecution for their alleged involvement in a range of crimes, including money laundering and causing financial loss to the state. They are accused of playing various roles in the distribution of liquidity support from the Bank of Ghana to now-defunct uniBank.
Duffour Jnr previously served as the CEO of uniBank, which was ranked as Ghana’s sixth-largest bank by assets in 2015 and was one of several major companies owned by HODA Holdings. Before that, he was the Chief Operating Officer of uniBank for over three years. He began his career as a Credit Analyst at Standard Bank, Ghana Limited, and holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Banking and International Finance from the United Kingdom’s Cass Business School
