It has been reported that Anthony Akoto Osei, the former Member of Parliament for Tafo Pankrono in the Ashanti Region, has passed away. According to sources, he had been unwell for some time and passed away at the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Accra.
Anthony Akoto Osei served as Minister of State for Finance and Economic Planning in the cabinet of President John Agyekum Kufuor. He was also Deputy Minister for Finance and Economic Planning in May 2003 and was a key economic advisor to the government.
Prior to his political career, Osei worked as an Associate Professor at Dollard University in the USA and as a Research Assistant at the Center for Policy Analysis in Ghana. He obtained a PhD from Howard University in 1987, a Master of Arts degree in Applied Economics from the American University in 1980, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Oberlin College in Ohio in 1978.
In 2002, Osei was appointed to the Management Board of Merchant Bank (Ghana) Ltd
