Former Trade Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, who narrowly missed securing the flagbearer position in the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), is poised to announce his political plans on Monday, September 25, 2023, during a scheduled press conference.
Despite finishing third in the initial round of the NPP’s flagbearer selection, which reduced the candidate pool from ten to five contenders, Mr. Kyerematen chose to withdraw from the November 4 congress. He cited perceived bias on the part of the party’s leadership in favor of a specific candidate as the reason for his withdrawal.
Amidst widespread speculations, there is anticipation that Mr. Kyerematen might decide to part ways with the party and forge his path toward the presidency as an independent candidate. However, the veil of uncertainty shrouding his next move will be lifted later today when he discloses his future intentions.
The possibility also exists that he may choose to continue his political journey within the party. He might opt to throw his support behind one of the remaining four candidates vying for the coveted flagbearer position or venture forth independently in pursuit of his political aspirations.
