Former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has announced his intention to conduct a thorough review of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy if he is elected President in the 2024 elections.
During an interview on UTV, Mr. Kyerematen expressed his appreciation for the NPP government’s efforts to enhance education accessibility through the Free SHS policy. However, he emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of the policy after seven years of implementation.
“I will review Free SHS; we have implemented it for seven years. You cannot run a program for seven years without reviewing it. So, when I assume office, there will be a comprehensive review of the Free SHS. The original idea is commendable, and I applaud Akufo-Addo for it, but it must undergo evaluation,” Mr. Kyerematen stated.
He further explained that his government’s focus would not only be on ensuring access to education but also on maintaining and improving the quality of education provided to students.
Mr. Kyerematen elaborated on his plans, emphasizing the importance of increased investment in educational infrastructure, teacher training, and curriculum development. He stressed the need for an education system that equips students with the skills to tackle both academic and practical challenges.
