On October 31, 2023, the divorce proceedings involving former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, and his ex-wife Gifty were finalized by the Accra High Court. The court officially dissolved their marriage, which had been established in 2013, and issued rulings pertaining to the paternity and custody of their three children, as well as the distribution of their landed and vehicular properties.
In his initial public response to the court’s decision, Asamoah Gyan shared on Twitter (now X) that he had accepted the outcome with maturity and retained a significant portion of his wealth.
Priningonline examined the relief Gifty sought in court and the outcomes she obtained. These were the major reliefs she had requested:
- Gifty Gyan sought alimony of US$1 million, but this request was rejected by the court.
- She also sought a share of Asamoah Gyan’s stake in several businesses she claimed he owned, which was likewise rejected due to her inability to substantiate his involvement in these enterprises.
- Gifty Gyan’s request for a share of an East Legon mansion and a property known as Baby Jet Heights was also denied, as the court deemed them non-spousal properties.
- Her request for cost and legal fees was dismissed as well.
The court did grant Gifty Gyan the following:
a. Ownership of Asamoah Gyan’s UK mansion in terms of landed property.
b. A four-bedroom house located in Spintex, Accra.
c. Ownership of a piece of land designated for a fuelling station in Prampram.
d. Two vehicles, a BMW and an Infiniti.
This marked the conclusion of the divorce proceedings, with each party receiving a set of assets as determined by the court.
