Asantehene travels to UK for Charles III’s coronation.

It is interesting to hear about the Asantehene’s trip to the United Kingdom to attend the coronation of the new King of Britain, Charles III, and the Queen Consort. The Asantehene is a revered traditional ruler in Ghana and his attendance at such a high-profile event underscores his importance not only in Ghana but also in the international community.

The video shared by the Manhyia Palace on Twitter gives a glimpse of the Asantehene’s departure from Kumasi International Airport. It is heartening to see him exchanging greetings with his sub-chiefs and aides before boarding his private jet. It shows the traditional African culture of respect and honor for the elders and leaders.

It is worth noting that the Asantehene’s trip to the United Kingdom is also a reflection of the longstanding historical ties between Ghana and the United Kingdom. Ghana, formerly known as the Gold Coast, was a British colony until it gained its independence in 1957. Since then, Ghana has maintained close ties with the United Kingdom, including cultural, economic, and political ties.

Overall, the Asantehene’s trip to the United Kingdom for the coronation of King Charles III and the Queen Consort is a significant event, both for Ghana and the international community. It highlights the importance of traditional rulers in Ghana and underscores the deep cultural and historical ties between Ghana and the United Kingdom.

A statement issued by the Chief of Staff of the Manhyia Palace, John Badu, last week confirmed that the Asantehene had been invited for the coronation ceremony which is slated for May 6, 2023, with his wife, Lady Julia.
