“Barker-Vormawor Vows to Make Akufo-Addo’s Post-Presidency Life a Living Hell”

Oliver Mawusi Barker-Vormawor, the #FixTheCountry convener, has threatened to make President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s life miserable over the alleged treatment of some people arrested by the state in connection with the Western Togoland secession. Barker-Vormawor claimed that some individuals suspected of being part of the secessionist group were being held in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) without charges, and some had died while in custody. He vowed to make President Akufo-Addo pay for the treatment of the alleged suspects upon the completion of his term of office. However, Article 57 (4) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana protects the President from legal proceedings while in office for the performance of his functions or any act done in the performance of his functions. Meanwhile, the Criminal Division of the High Court in Accra has sentenced five Western Togoland secessionists to a total of 25 years in prison for blocking the Aveyime road from Accra with sand and attacking the Aveyime and Mepe Police Stations in the Volta Region in September 2020.
