The Ministry of Education is undertaking plans to replace textbooks with laptops in Senior High Schools nationwide, according to an announcement made by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Dr. Bawumia revealed that the laptops will be equipped with teaching and learning materials, effectively replacing traditional textbooks. This initiative is expected to be implemented by the end of 2023, as Dr. Bawumia shared this information during the 60th Anniversary celebration of the Hohoe Evangelical Presbyterian Senior High School.
The objective of the initiative is to equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in the global community, stated Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He emphasized the importance of investing in education as a means to prepare future nation builders and propel the country in the right direction.
During the 60th Anniversary celebration of the Hohoe Evangelical Presbyterian Senior High School, Dr. Bawumia announced that the Ministry of Education plans to replace textbooks with laptops in Senior High Schools. These laptops will contain embedded textbooks, allowing for a modernized approach to teaching and learning. The implementation of this initiative is scheduled to begin before the end of 2023.
This development follows the government’s launch of the One-teacher One-laptop project on September 3, 2021. The aim of this program was to provide Senior High School teachers with modern tools to enhance their teaching capabilities. As of December 11, 2021, the Ghana Education Service reported that 80% of the laptops designated for teachers had been distributed.
