Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has unveiled three proposed policies that he plans to implement if he receives the backing of the governing Party delegates to run as the Flagbearer and subsequently as the President in 2025. These policies include “One Constituency-One Godfather and Mother,” “One Constituency-Ten Appointments,” and “One Constituency-One Welfare Office.” These initiatives aim to address internal discontent within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Dr. Bawumia made this announcement during a speech to NPP delegates in the Krachi East constituency of the Oti Region, ahead of the November 4 election to select the party’s Flagbearer for the 2024 general election. He emphasized that these policies are designed to ensure that every party member at the constituency level receives proper attention, given their significant contributions to the party’s success.
Dr. Bawumia pointed out that he had observed disparities in appointments among constituencies when the party assumed government, with some constituencies not benefiting from the numerous privileged positions offered by the President. This disparity, he argued, hampered accelerated development, particularly in underrepresented constituencies.
To address this, Dr. Bawumia pledged that, in his administration, all Ministers and Chief Executive Officers would adopt one constituency each and work to implement developmental projects in their respective adopted constituencies. Additionally, he proposed the creation of a welfare office in every constituency to provide party members with access to support, including financial assistance.
He emphasized his commitment to ensuring that all 275 constituencies across the country would have the opportunity to be represented in the government. Dr. Bawumia stated that these policies are aimed at bridging the gap between the party’s base and its leadership, ultimately leading to better integration of the party and the government.
