Bekwai SDA students flee school for fear of their lives

Several students from Bekwai SDA Senior High School in the Bekwai Municipality have fled the institution out of fear for their safety. The exodus follows clashes between boarding students and individuals suspected to be day students, allegedly collaborating with troublemakers from Bekwai Municipality.

Detailing the incident to starrfm.com.gh, a student recounted a heated altercation between a boarding student and a day student on campus, leading to physical altercations on Friday, March 22, 2024. Subsequently, after the departure of the day students, a group of masked youths armed with machetes approached the students, hurling stones at them.

In response, the students defended themselves by throwing stones and eventually managed to repel the attackers from the school premises. The situation escalated, resulting in injuries to some students, including one who sustained a machete wound, requiring medical attention at the Bekwai Municipal Hospital.

The student also described a retaliatory attack allegedly carried out by a group of youths riding in rickshaws after the Sabbath Service on Saturday evening around 8:00 PM. Angered by this incident, some students armed themselves with machetes, retaliating against the attackers and causing damage to one of their vehicles.

Concerned about the escalating violence, the student, along with others, opted to leave the school for their safety. Reported by Ivan Heathcote–Fumador, several students have fled the school amidst fears of further deadly attacks.
