Reports indicate that another earthquake has hit the border of Turkey and Syria, exactly two weeks after the devastating earthquake that occurred on Monday, February 6, 2023. According to AJ+, the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.3, resulting in damages to structures, but there have been no immediate reports of casualties. Since the February 6 earthquake that killed over 46,000 people, Turkey has reported over 6,000 aftershocks.
Meanwhile, the remains of Christian Atsu, a former Black Stars winger, who was trapped in the February 6 earthquake, have been returned to Ghana. After a 12-day search, his remains were found under the rubble on February 18 and transported to Ghana, arriving on Sunday from Istanbul. CNN reports that the earthquake, which is the second-largest in the last century anywhere in the world, has already claimed more than 40,000 lives in Turkey and neighbouring Syria.
