Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bismark Aborbi-Ayitey, has called upon President Nana Akufo Addo to respond to recent developments involving Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Aborbi-Ayitey’s plea follows the emergence of a tape recording implicating Bugri Naabu and high-ranking police officers in a plot to remove Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare.
During a panel discussion on Peace FM on August 30, 2023, Aborbi-Ayitey drew attention to Bugri Naabu’s statements made during a parliamentary committee hearing. He expressed concern that Bugri Naabu had allegedly implicated the President in the matter. Aborbi-Ayitey believes it is imperative for the President to address these allegations and hold Bugri Naabu accountable for his claims.
Highlighting the seriousness of these allegations, Aborbi-Ayitey referred to former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu’s characterization of President Akufo Addo as the “mother serpent of all corruption.” He stressed that to safeguard the President’s reputation and credibility, decisive action must be taken against Bugri Naabu.
Aborbi-Ayitey stated, “This is the President who, according to Martin Amidu, claimed to be the mother serpent of all corruption. He should take measures against Bugri Naabu for spreading falsehoods about him. If he fails to do so, as seen in his handling of the Nyantakyi case, we may have to confront the regrettable reality that our President is involved in corruption.”
