CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENTS BY YouTuber Emdee Tiamiyu Spark Outrage among Nigerians and Ghanaians

Popular YouTuber Emdee Tiamiyu has recently sparked outrage, primarily among Nigerians and some Ghanaians on social media, due to controversial remarks he made during a recent interview. In an exclusive conversation with the BBC, Emdee was asked about the increasing number of Nigerian students studying in the United Kingdom. His response suggested that Nigerians who apply to study abroad are not necessarily motivated by a genuine desire for education but rather view it as a means to an end.

Emdee stated, “It’s not like they need the degrees; they need the degrees as an access route into the country. So a lot of these people, their priorities shifted so fast.” When the interviewer questioned whether it was primarily about getting into the UK, Emdee affirmed, saying, “Exactly. It’s not really about the education.”

These comments have sparked a wave of backlash from netizens who accuse Emdee of tarnishing the country’s reputation. They argue that his remarks not only denigrate his fellow citizens but also potentially harm the chances of other Nigerians who genuinely seek to pursue further studies and seek better opportunities in the UK
