In a surprising twist of events, retired COP Alex Mensah has characterized the leaked tape scandal that exposed a plot to oust the IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, as an unexpected blessing. This scandal involved the public release of audio recordings of private conversations between COP Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and former NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu, resulting in significant embarrassment for those involved.
In an interview with Joy News, COP Alex Mensah, who was at the center of the controversy, admitted that he was initially shocked when the tapes became public. However, he has come to see the silver lining, as the incident brought unexpected opportunities. He expressed, “You see, God has His own way of blessing people. Had it not been for this tape, maybe we wouldn’t be where we are now. My name and image wouldn’t have gained such widespread recognition. Today, in my constituency, everyone knows me, and people are seeking me out.”
He continued, “Even friends I hadn’t heard from in years are reaching out to me from the U.S., U.K., Germany, and everywhere else. Sometimes, you might not understand it at first, but eventually, you realize that what seemed like a problem was the way the Lord used to elevate you.”
COP Alex Mensah expressed his deep gratitude for the unwavering support he received from colleagues and friends throughout the ordeal. He stressed that he had learned valuable lessons from the leaked tape scandal and was committed to moving forward with a renewed sense of purpose and responsibility.
When asked directly if the leaked tape had been a blessing, the parliamentary hopeful for Bekwai responded, “In many ways, yes. At the very least, it has raised public awareness about issues within the Ghana Police Service that need attention.”
