According to a report by myjoyonline.com, sources close to the matter have stated that Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is set to declare his intention to run as a presidential candidate aspirant for the ruling New Patriotic Party. This comes after months of rumors and speculation.
Dr. Bawumia reportedly announced his intentions to some members of the Majority Caucus during a meeting on May 2, 2023, indicating that he is prepared to lead the party to “break the eight,” succeeding his current boss, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is set to complete his second term in office.
The New Patriotic Party has scheduled its presidential primaries for November 2023, with the nomination period for the primaries set to run from May 26 to June 24, 2023. Dr. Bawumia’s inclusion in the race brings the total number of declared candidates to nine, including Alan Kyerematen, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, Kennedy Agyapong, Joe Ghartey, and Francis Addai-Nimoh, among others.
