Dr. Bawumia, vice president, issues an order for Kejetia Market to reopen on March 21, 2023.
According to Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Ghana’s vice president, the Kumasi Kejetia Market fire was started by a mistake made by a person.
He claimed that one of the merchants tried to use a gas cooker to prepare food in one of the businesses, which is how the fire started.
When he and other national executives, including some members of Parliament, visited the complex to learn more about the blaze on Monday, March 20, 2021, he revealed this.
“I recently contacted with representatives of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), and I have it on good authority that one of the vendors opted to prepare food on a gas burner, which is how the fire began.
Sadly, the source of the fire was determined to be a few flammable objects.
“I’m here to deliver President Akufo-message Addo’s to you, and I want to assure you that the government would provide the assistance required for the impacted traders to recover”
The President assures you of his commitment to getting you back in business and extends his condolences to all the traders who have lost their goods and money in this regrettable catastrophe. He spoke.
But, according to Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the market will reopen tomorrow for business operations after being closed to the public for a week following the fire event.
