Dr. Frederick Mac-Palm, the primary suspect in a treason case in the country, has reportedly passed away. It is alleged that he was involved in a plot to stage a coup against President Akufo-Addo. According to a report by citinewsroom.com, the circumstances surrounding his death are unclear, but he reportedly collapsed on the night of March 25, 2023. He was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival
BACKGROUND
On September 20, 2019, Dr. Mac-Palm, Ezor Kafui, and Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu were arrested by a joint team from the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) and the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) for allegedly plotting a coup against the presidency with the intent to destabilize the country. The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, announced that state agencies had foiled a planned attack on the Jubilee House, and several arms, explosive devices, and ammunition were retrieved from Alajo and Bawaleshie in Accra and Dodowa, respectively.
The three accused persons were arraigned before the Kaneshie District Court on September 24 and charged with several offences, including conspiracy to commit crimes, manufacturing of arms and ammunition without lawful authority, possessing explosives and firearms without lawful excuse, and manufacture of firearms without lawful authority. Dr. Mac-Palm pleaded innocent to the charges, and the court remanded all three suspects into BNI custody, allowing family members and lawyers to visit them.
On October 9, 2019, the case was adjourned, and a fourth suspect named Sulley was reported to be on the run
