Emmanuel K. Gyan Wins Wikipedia Contributor Of The Year 2023

Open Foundation West Africa (OFWA) has awarded Emmanuel K. Gyan as the Wikipedian with the highest edits contribution on the free encyclopedia in 2023.
According to OFWA, Gyan, a journalist with a Sunyani-based radio station, Sky FM accumulatively made the highest edit across all hubs in the country with 21,000 Wikipedia edits.

These edits were towards several edit-a-thons like the Africa Day Campaign, and Wiki Loves Festival among other contests.
This event took place during the Annual General Meeting coinciding with the launch of the Foundation’s new office in Accra and the introduction of 5 new board members.
“In recognition of his remarkable dedication and outstanding commitment to knowledge sharing, we proudly award Emmanuel K. Gyan as the OFWA Top Wiki Contributor of the Year 2023” the citation announcing the winner said.

Additionally, Emmanuel’s notable accomplishments as a top contributor across all hubs highlight his key impact on our community” it added.
Emmanuel K. Gyan upon receiving his plague, urged a lot of people to volunteer to write a lot of Africans to change the under-represented African content on the free encyclopedia.

“More people especially young people should dedicate their time to put Africa on Wikipedia. There are great stories about us but who is going to put it out there? No one except me and you,” he said.
Gyan also commended the organization for their commitment to promoting open knowledge across West Africa.
“OFWA is doing such a great job of enhancing free knowledge across our sub-region and they need to be commended,” Gyan added.
Other awardees include Hub of the Year, Kumasi Wiki Hub, Hub Leader of the Year, Emmanuel Frimpong and Thomas Baah picked Star Performer of the Year.
