“Fair Wages and Salary Commission Conducts Nationwide Payroll Monitoring Exercise for Public Sector Workers in 2023”

As part of its mandate to clean up the public-sector payroll, the Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC) will be conducting a nationwide payroll monitoring exercise starting from 1st April 2023. The exercise is aimed at identifying and eliminating fraud and anomalies on the public sector payroll and ensuring that only approved salaries and allowances are paid.

To facilitate this exercise, all Boards/Councils and heads of public sector institutions are required to conduct their internal payroll audit and clean up any discrepancies before the FWSC exercise. This includes a review of basic salaries, allowances, and benefits. Individuals and banks in receipt of Frontline salaries and allowances are also advised to refund any overpayments or face legal consequences.

It has been reported that some individuals may be receiving double salaries or wrong salaries, and those who are found to be overpaid or receiving wrong allowances will be required to pay back the excess amounts. Therefore, it is recommended that all public sector workers check their salary and allowances to ensure they are on the correct rank and scale.

If you discover any discrepancies, it is important to take the necessary steps to rectify the situation before it is too late. For more information, contact the director of salary administration
