Former NPP Fomena Chair reveals reasons for switching allegiance from Alan Kyerematen to Bawumia

Former Chairman of the Fomena Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Akwasi Nti, has publicly declared his support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate for the upcoming primaries. In an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM, Mr. Nti stated that he fully supports Dr. Bawumia and believes that it is his turn to lead the party, given his leadership skills and competence, as well as his association with the Dombo tradition.

Mr. Nti also cited his dissatisfaction with the Former Trade and Industry Minister, John Alan Kyerematen, as a reason for crossing over to Dr. Bawumia’s camp. He claimed that despite his long-standing support for Mr. Kyerematen, the latter showed no concern for him when he was suspended by the party on three different occasions.

The NPP has scheduled its presidential primaries for November 4, 2023, to select its candidate for the 2024 general elections. Although Dr. Bawumia has not yet announced his intention to contest, many party members and supporters see him as the leading candidate, given his popularity and widespread grassroots support
