Funeral of Late Ga Manye to Proceed as Scheduled, Affirms Planning Committee

Organizers of the late Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III’s funeral, are determined to proceed with the ceremony this Saturday, despite facing a legal injunction. The funeral had encountered a setback when certain interested parties obtained an injunction, restraining the organizers from proceeding for the next ten days.

The plaintiffs in the case include Nuumo Emmanuel T. Antia We, Head of the Antie We of Kpone, Nii Addey Oba-Aasaa II, Ankobea of Antie We of Kpone, Shippi Antie I, Saduase Shippi Kpone, Charles Nii Kotey Kotey, Head of Naa Dedei Omaedru We Family of Faase, Accra, Asafoatse Nii Kotey Ga II, Oseahene of Ga Manye Stool and Principal Elder of the Naa Dedei Omaedru We of Faase Accra, Michael Nii Ofei Danso of unnumbered House Accra, Principal Elder of Naa Dedei Omaedru We of Faase Accra, and Naa Yomofio, Linguist of Ga Manye Naa Dedei Omaedru We.

However, in an interview with Eyewitness News, a member of the funeral planning committee and the Ga Adangbe Council President, Nii Ayikoi Otoo, unequivocally stated that the funeral would proceed as planned because they had not received the court documents.

He argued that the organizers, being assigned to arrange the funeral, could not be held legally responsible, and he affirmed that the funeral would be held at the Ga Mantse Palace.

Nii Ayikoi Otoo expressed their lack of awareness regarding the injunction, emphasizing that they had not been served with any legal notices. He also questioned the involvement of the Ga Traditional Council as defendants in the case.

He highlighted the significant presence of traditional leaders and dignitaries who would attend the event, including important chiefs from across Ghana. The funeral schedule includes a burial service from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a procession through the principal streets led by the Asafoatsemei. An evening private burial is also planned.

Nii Ayikoi Otoo urged residents and businesses in the Central Business District of the Greater Accra Region to observe the funeral day by closing their shops, schools, and offices.

Naa Dedei Omaedru III passed away in December 2022, and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo opened a book of condolences on June 19, 2023.
