Galamseyer Mocks Akufo-Addo with Statement: “We’ll ruin our land because it belongs to us”

In a widely shared video on the internet, a group of illegal miners, commonly known as galamseyers, openly challenged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s efforts to end illegal mining in Ghana. One of the workers boasted that they owned the land and had decided to degrade it in search of gold, despite the President’s calls to end galamsey.

The galamseyer’s sentiments were echoed by his co-workers, who also expressed their commitment to continue destroying the land. They also belittled unemployed youth in the country, suggesting that they only resort to robbery because they are lazy and unwilling to work hard like them.

The President has repeatedly promised to end illegal mining in Ghana, both in the form of galamsey and legal mining that harms the environment. He has called on all Ghanaians, regardless of social status, to support the fight against galamsey
