Ghana Education Service Confirms Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Will Proceed as Scheduled
Addressing growing speculation and concerns, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has categorically stated that there are no plans to cancel the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The GES aimed to dispel the rumors that had been circulating about the possible cancellation of this critical examination, which serves as a significant milestone in the educational journey of Ghanaian students.
“We want to assure all stakeholders, especially the students, that the BECE will proceed as scheduled,” affirmed a GES spokesperson. The authority emphasized its dedication to ensuring that students can complete their education and progress to the next stage of their academic pursuits.
The BECE, a standardized examination administered at the end of junior high school, plays a vital role in determining students’ eligibility for senior high school education.
It covers core subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Social Studies, Integrated Science, and others. The results obtained from this examination have a substantial impact on the educational prospects of Ghanaian students.
Given the uncertainties caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, concerns had been raised about the feasibility of conducting the BECE.
However, after careful consideration and consultation with relevant stakeholders, the GES has made the decision to proceed with the examination. The authority assured the public that appropriate measures would be implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
“The decision to continue with the BECE was not taken lightly. We have been closely monitoring the situation and have devised comprehensive protocols to safeguard the health of students and examination personnel,” explained the GES spokesperson.
These protocols align with the guidelines and recommendations provided by health authorities to mitigate the spread of the virus.
The GES also emphasized the significance of the BECE in assessing students’ academic progress and facilitating their transition to higher education. The examination serves as a crucial evaluation tool, enabling educational institutions to select candidates for admission based on their performance. By proceeding with the BECE, the GES aims to ensure fairness, transparency, and equal opportunities for all students across the country.
The GES acknowledged the concerns expressed by parents, students, and educators regarding the potential cancellation of the BECE.
Nevertheless, they reiterate that every effort is being made to ensure a smooth and successful examination process. The authority called for support and cooperation from all stakeholders to facilitate the effective implementation of the BECE.
As the GES reaffirms its commitment to upholding the integrity of the education system and supporting students’ academic journeys, the decision to proceed with the BECE is expected to alleviate anxieties and provide clarity for students and their families.
The GES remains dedicated to ensuring the continuity of education and the future prospects of Ghanaian students, even in the face of challenging circumstances.
