“Ghana Gas Responds to Alleged Robbery of US$500 and €590 at Russia-Africa Summit”

The Ghana National Gas Company Limited has responded to reports of one of its officers losing US$500 and €590 during the Russia-Africa summit held from Thursday, Jul 27, 2023 – Friday, Jul 28, 2023, in Russia.

In a release dated July 31, 2023, the company clarified that it did not send any official representative to Russia for the summit. Therefore, they deny the incident of the officer allegedly being robbed at a hotel in Russia.

The company firmly stated that there was no such incident as reported. Since Ghana Gas had no official representation at the Russia-Africa summit, they consider the claims of missing funds involving their officials as baseless and completely untrue.

Background:

During the recent Russia-Africa summit held in St. Petersburg from July 28th to 29th, an incident was reported where an unnamed member of Ghana’s delegation allegedly lost some money from their hotel room. Ukrainian journalist Igor Suskho mentioned in a tweet that attendees from Ghana, Burundi, and Argentina found their hotel rooms burglarized during the event. The executive from Ghana’s gas company reportedly lost $500 and €590 in cash.

It’s worth noting that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was not captured in the family photo taken at the end of the summit, but Ghana did send a delegation comprising government officials and representatives from the private sector. The specific leader of the Ghanaian delegation has not been mentioned in the available documents.
