“GRIDCo Attributes Widespread Dumsor to Gas Supply Challenges Nationwide”

“Major Power Outage Strikes Parts of the Country on October 26, 2023, Blamed on Limited Gas Supply”

On Thursday, October 26, 2023, the Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo) announced a significant power outage due to challenges stemming from limited gas supply in Tema. According to their statement, this gas supply limitation will result in a peak-time supply gap of 550MW, impacting power distribution in certain parts of the country. GRIDCo expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by this situation.

It’s worth noting that there have been recent concerns about unannounced power outages, locally referred to as “dumsor.” Despite the announcement of today’s outage, there was no specific timetable provided regarding the affected areas or the expected duration of the disruption before normal power supply resumes.

POWER SUPPLY CHALLENGE


The Ghana Grid Company Ltd, (GRIDCo), the “Operator” of the National Interconnected Transmission System (NITS) informs the general public that due to limited gas supply to Tema, there will be a supply gap of 550MW at peak time.

This will affect power supply to consumers in some parts of the country.

The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.
