Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Akuffo Dampare has underscored his commitment to reconcile with three senior Police Officers who were implicated in a covert recording discussing plans to remove him from office. Referring to these officers – COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi – as his brothers, he emphasized that forgiveness is a daily practice for him as a Christian. He expressed no animosity or resentment toward them, stating that they are like family to him, and their children are as dear to him as his own.
Despite their refusal to admit responsibility for their actions and their unfounded allegations against him, IGP Dampare revealed his willingness to forgive and accept them with an open heart. He emphasized the importance of building bridges with them, as they might be his only support in times of need. He emphasized that, in line with his Christian beliefs, he would assist these troubled officers in any way necessary. This commitment came to light during his appearance before the Ad-hoc committee to address accusations made by previous witnesses.
Background
On Tuesday, July 11, an audio recording allegedly featuring a police commissioner and a politician discussing plans to remove IGP George Dampare from his position surfaced in the media. In response, the Minority Caucus in Parliament called for an inquiry into the covert scheme presented in the audio. Subsequently, on July 25, 2023, the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, appointed a bipartisan committee consisting of seven members to investigate the aforementioned audio. This committee comprises three members from both the Majority and Minority sides of Parliament, along with a technical expert.
