“In the Heat of the 2024 Campaign, Alan Kyerematen May Fade into Obscurity, Says Adom-Otchere”

Veteran journalist Paul Adom-Otchere has offered a prediction regarding Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s decision to run as an Independent Candidate in the 2024 presidential election after resigning from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Adom-Otchere believes that as the campaign season intensifies, Kyerematen may be overshadowed by the main contenders.

According to Adom-Otchere, if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia becomes the NPP’s flagbearer, the election will primarily revolve around a fierce battle between Bawumia and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

Adom-Otchere stated on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, “I can tell you that by the time the campaign hits a crescendo, if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia becomes the NPP’s candidate, with the kind of campaigning he does, which he’s going to do. When the campaign reaches a crescendo, and it’s John Dramani Mahama versus Dr. Bawumia, people will even forget that Alan Kyerematen is contesting.”

He emphasized that the election would be fiercely contested and that the presence of a third candidate like Kyerematen might be overlooked as the campaign intensifies. However, he acknowledged that it’s essential to observe how Kyerematen’s campaign unfolds.

Adom-Otchere also shared his belief that while some Ghanaians, including NPP and NDC youth, may express support for Kyerematen on social media, they might ultimately choose to vote for their respective parties in the 2024 elections. He suggested that NPP youth may feel that voting for Kyerematen could be seen as wasting their vote, while NDC supporters would be more focused on supporting their candidate, John Mahama.

Alan Kyerematen cited reasons such as intimidation of his supporters and party divisions as factors that led to his resignation from the NPP.
