“Interdiction of COP George Alex Mensah and Two Others Linked to Leaked Audio Plotting IGP’s Removal”

The Ghana Police Service has taken action by interdicting COP George Alex Mensah, the former Director General of the technical department, as part of an ongoing investigation into a leaked audio recording. This recording purportedly involves discussions about the removal of IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. Additionally, two other officers, Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Superintendent George Lysander Asare, have also been interdicted, as confirmed by an official statement from the police service.

COP George Alex Mensah, along with the two other police officers, received formal notification of their interdiction on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. They were instructed to hand over their uniforms, equipment, and official police vehicles to the service. This action was initiated to pave the way for disciplinary proceedings in accordance with police service regulations.

An ad hoc committee established by Parliament is currently conducting an investigation into this matter. COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, are central figures in this investigation. Allegedly, these individuals met in Naabu’s office in Osu to strategize a plan for the removal of IGP Dampare.
