“James Gyakye Quayson’s Review Application Unanimously Dismissed by Supreme Court”

Supreme Court Dismisses James Gyakye Quayson’s Review Application on Assin-North MP Election

The Supreme Court has unanimously dismissed James Gyakye Quayson’s review application, challenging the court’s decision that declared his 2020 election as Member of Parliament for Assin-North unconstitutional. A nine-member panel of the apex court stated that the application did not meet the required threshold for review, as specified by the 1992 Constitution and Supreme Court rules.

Chief Justice Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo delivered the court’s decision, noting that most of the grounds raised in Mr. Quayson’s application were a repetition of the arguments presented in the original case. The court further emphasized that certain grounds in the review application were mere disagreements with the court’s judgment and did not constitute exceptional circumstances warranting a review in favor of the MP.

“The Application for review is dismissed as without merit,” quoted Justice Torkornoo.
