Juror in J B Danquah-Adu’s murder case put to bed, trial on hold

The trial of Daniel Asiedu, the alleged murderer of the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, J.B. Danquah Adu, has been temporarily suspended due to an unexpected event. One of the jurors involved in the case has given birth, leading to an unforeseen disruption in the trial schedule. The High Court in Accra, specifically the Criminal Division, had previously set trial dates for October and November, but this development has caused a delay.

Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, who is presiding over the case, made efforts to convince the juror to reconsider the situation, emphasizing the critical stage the trial had reached and the potential consequences of further delays. Despite these efforts, the juror remained steadfast in her decision to return after a three-month absence, despite having a routine childbirth experience and prior childbirths. The court provided assurances of support and comfort for both the juror and her child, but this did not alter her stance.

During an open court session, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo expressed her frustration, noting that she could not obtain a specific return date from the juror despite highlighting the significance of the case’s stage and the potential ramifications of further delays.

The trial pertains to the murder of J.B. Danquah-Adu, the late Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, who was killed at his Shiashie residence on February 9, 2016. The accused individuals, Daniel Asiedu and Vincent Bossu, have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, while Daniel Asiedu, also known as Sexy Dondon, faces separate charges of murder and robbery in connection with the case.

As a result of this juror’s situation, the court has adjourned the case to November 7, 2023, for mention, allowing time for the juror’s absence to be accommodated.
