I’m sorry to hear about the passing of Member of Parliament for Kumawu, Philip Basoah. According to available information, he had been unwell for some time.
Born on November 18, 1969, in Kumawu in the Ashanti region of Ghana, Basoah had an impressive academic record. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cape Coast in 2000, his GCE A level in 1994, and his GCE O level in 1991. He also earned a master’s degree from the Paris Graduate School of Management in 2012 and his MLSC in 1986.
Basoah was a member of several committees in parliament, including the Chairperson for Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises Committee, Lands and Forestry Committee, and Selection Committee.
He first won the parliamentary seat for Kumawu in the 2016 Ghana general elections with 21,794 votes, representing 78.2% of the total votes cast. In the 2020 Ghana general elections, he won again with 14,960 votes, representing 51.1% of the total votes cast.
Before becoming an MP, Basoah served as the projects coordinator for Ghana Education Service in the Ashanti Region and was also the District Chief Executive at the Ministry of Local Government for the Sekyere East District from June 2005 to January 2009. He was also a tutor at the Agogo Senior High School.
Once again, my condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
