“List of Statutory Public Holidays for the Year 2024”

In 2024, Ghanaians are slated to observe a total of 13 statutory public holidays and commemorative days as designated by the constitution of Ghana. The Ministry of the Interior has released the schedule for this year’s holiday observances.

With the commencement of the year, New Year’s Day on January 1 has already passed. The subsequent public holiday falls on January 7, 2024, which, being a Sunday, will be observed on Monday.

Independence Day follows on March 6, with the Easter holidays of Good Friday and Easter Monday set for March 29 and April 1, respectively. May 1 marks Workers’ Day.

Founders’ Day, dedicated to celebrating the founding fathers of the nation, is scheduled for August 4. Additionally, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, commemorating the birthday of Ghana’s first president, will be observed on September 21.

December 2024 will witness three public holidays, comprising Farmer’s Day on December 6, Christmas Day on December 25, and Boxing Day on December 26.

Two other statutory holidays, commemorating the Islamic festive seasons of Eid-Ul-Fitr and Eid-Ul-Adha, do not have fixed dates set by the Ministry of the Interior. The ministry notes that these dates are provided by the Office of the Chief Imam in the respective year due to their nature as movable feasts.
