The TikTok couple, Empress Lupita and her husband, known as ‘Godpapa The Greatest,’ have been declared mentally ill and unfit to undergo trial in relation to the alleged murder of their son. This ruling was based on a report from an official at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital and follows a series of unusual behaviors exhibited by the couple during their legal proceedings.
The couple’s conduct in court included talking and laughing amongst themselves, which prompted the judge at the Tema District Court to order a psychiatric examination. According to Angel FM’s court correspondent, Ama Brako, the judge’s decision was made because the couple’s behavior in the courtroom was at times dramatic.
The psychiatric evaluation, conducted by a senior doctor at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, revealed a history of mental instability spanning approximately 11 years. The doctor’s assessment indicated that both Empress Lupita and ‘Godpapa The Greatest’ had experienced mental health issues and had been hearing voices, which might have led to their self-conversations and laughter during court proceedings.
The doctor recommended that the couple is not in a condition to stand trial and should receive separate treatment along with medication. Additionally, the doctor suggested that if the Accra Psychiatric Hospital were to admit them, it should be under the condition of providing 24-hour police protection.
BACKGROUND.
The couple is suspected of being involved in the alleged murder and subsequent burial of their deceased children. Their youngest child, however, managed to escape from their home and shared some of the distressing experiences he had endured while under his parents’ care before making his escape.
Before their apprehension, the couple had garnered substantial attention on the social media platform TikTok, where they were known as Godpapa The Greatest and Empress Lupita. In one of their media interviews, they openly admitted to the sacrifice of one of their children, asserting that they believed the child was possessed by an evil spirit and that his future actions would involve engaging in criminal activities detrimental to the nation. The couple had been actively sharing their domestic experiences on social media, providing glimpses into their lives, up until their arrest by the police.
