The Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana (MOMAG) and Momo Agents have expressed dismay with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) regarding the imposition of the E-levy on agent SIM cards, labeling it as a form of double taxation that negatively impacts their businesses. Despite their efforts to engage with the GRA on this matter, MOMAG stated that they have been unsuccessful in finding a resolution, expressing frustration over the lack of concrete results. MOMAG emphasized that the introduction of this new levy, alongside the existing 10% income tax on transactions, presents significant financial hurdles for their operations. They stressed that the current situation is unsustainable and could lead to the loss of their capital due to the heavy burden of double taxation. MOMAG called for swift government intervention, particularly from the Ministry of Finance and other relevant stakeholders, to address the issue and hold the GRA accountable. Signed by the National Secretary, Kingsley J. Amoako-Atta, the statement also highlighted the unsustainable financial strain imposed by the E-levy on Agent SIM cards and the 1% levy on all Push and Pull transactions from banks. MOMAG cautioned of potential shop closures and demonstrations if their concerns are not promptly addressed.
