Tamale Central MP, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, has criticized the publication of photos of MPs who have been deemed to have respected the party position by rejecting some nominees of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The publication is being done via WhatsApp status by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, who has been speaking harshly against lawmakers who defied a party and three-line whip to approve ministerial and supreme court nominees.
Murtala expressed his concern that the continued publication, which is based on evidence of how an MP voted, would be unfair towards MPs who genuinely voted as directed but did not have photo or video evidence. He called for sober heads amid the crisis faced by the party in the wake of the March 24 approval of six ministerial nominees at a time when the number of MPs on both sides of the House was 136, resulting in a tie and a loss of approval.
Murtala stressed that there are other businesses that need to be done, and the approval was a missed opportunity to make a strong case on a national issue. He lamented that some MPs who genuinely voted as directed may be unfairly perceived as having betrayed the party, as their constituents may not know that they voted as directed but did not have photo or video evidence
Joy News published a list of all MPs Kwetey had posted as at March 27
