NPP Speaks Out After Alan’s Departure from the Party

The General Secretary of the NPP Responds to Alan Kyerematen’s Resignation and Independent Candidacy for 2024 Elections

Following Alan Kyerematen’s announcement of his resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and his intention to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 presidential elections, the General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Kodua, posted “we are NPP” on Facebook as his response.

Alan Kyerematen, a former NPP flagbearer hopeful, made this significant decision during a press conference held in Accra. He urged Ghanaians to prepare for his independent candidacy and explained his reasons for leaving the NPP, a party he had been a part of since 1992.

Kyerematen expressed his disillusionment, stating that the NPP had strayed far from the party he had joined and helped nurture. He claimed that the party had been influenced by a select group of leaders, government appointees, and “behind-the-curtain power brokers,” along with unscrupulous party members.

In his own words, “The NPP as it exists now has very little resemblance to the Party that I joined in 1992 and helped to nurture. The Party has been hijacked by a selected group of Party leaders and elders, government appointees, ‘behind the curtain power brokers,’ and some unscrupulous Party apparatchiks.”

Alan Kyerematen also shared his plans for his presidential campaign, which would be led by a youth-driven movement. He unveiled the movement’s logo, a Monarch Butterfly symbolizing change, transformation, hope, and positivity, as well as its motto, “Ghana Will Rise Again,” representing hope for the nation’s future.

He emphasized the importance of the youth in his campaign, noting that they constituted a significant portion of the voting population, with over 9.4 million voters aged 18-35, representing 55% of the total voters in the 2020 general election.
