On March 23, 2023, during the debate on the report of the committee on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s nominations for ministerial positions, Parliament’s sitting was suspended due to heated exchanges between the Minority and Majority.
The Minority argued that they had not seen the report until that day and requested ample time to go through the over 60-page document. The Majority Leader opposed their request and asked the Speaker to proceed with the report.
After listening to both sides, the Speaker ruled that the house should be suspended for ten minutes, which was later extended to 15 minutes. Before the suspension, the First Deputy Speaker moved the motion for the debate of the report, but there was nobody from the minority to second the motion.
The Deputy Majority Leader eventually seconded the motion, but the Majority Chief Whip requested the Speaker to allow them to suspend sitting to have a joint caucus meeting
