President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Backs Electrochem Salt Mining Project in Ada Enclave
President Akufo-Addo has expressed his endorsement for the salt mining firm Electrochem operating within the Ada enclave. The establishment of Electrochem had triggered protests from local residents who opposed the acquisition of salt ponds in the Songhor Lagoon.
Speaking at this year’s Asafotufiami festival, President Akufo-Addo appealed to the community for support, highlighting that the Ada-Songhor Salt project led by Electrochem holds promise for local development.
“The potential of this project to transform the economy and the lives of all people in Ada and our nation is significant,” the president stated. He encouraged the people of Ada to wholeheartedly support Electrochem’s endeavors.
President Akufo-Addo also sought the approval of Ada’s chiefs and inhabitants, underscoring the importance of unity in embracing the operations of the salt mining company.
The Songhor salt concession, led by Dr. Daniel McKorley, Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies, has been marred by ongoing disputes and legal battles since its government allocation.
