On April 21, 2023, reports emerged from Adum, Kumasi, that a young lady known as Maadwoa was shot and killed by her boyfriend after a misunderstanding. Maadwoa, who was just 26 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The news of the murder caused outrage among Ghanaians, particularly on social media, with many calling for justice for the victim. In response, Samson Kwame Nyamekye, Peace FM’s Ashanti regional correspondent, conducted an investigation and alleged that a police inspector was behind the murder.
According to Nyamekye, the police inspector worked with the police SWAT unit in the Ashanti region and was promoted to police inspector in December 2022. He also revealed that the suspect had dated Maadwoa before, despite being married with children.
Nyamekye’s investigation led to speculation that the suspect may be on the run, as preliminary information from the police indicated that they had gone into the inspector’s house but he was nowhere to be found. Nyamekye suggested that if the police can publish the suspect’s details, it might help in locating him.
The murder of Maadwoa has sparked mourning among her friends and sympathizers, who have taken to social media to express their grief and demand justice for her bereaved family.
A report by Kessben TV revealed that the shooting took place on the evening of April 20, 2023, at the forecourt of Dufie Towers in Adum. The police are currently on a manhunt for the suspect, and the investigation is ongoing
