Mr. Ebenezer Kofi Asare, the Director of Education for Adansi South District, has called upon the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take immediate action regarding the deployment of teachers to areas where they are most needed.
He emphasized that with teachers now being directly assigned from the GES headquarters, it is crucial for a fair distribution of teachers to ensure that rural and underserved schools receive an adequate number of educators, thereby facilitating quality teaching and learning.
In observance of World Teachers’ Day, Mr. Asare highlighted the significance of equitable teacher distribution in achieving the goal of providing equal access to education at all levels. He pointed out the current imbalance where some urban schools are overstaffed while many rural schools have one teacher handling multiple classes, stressing the need for a reconsideration of this situation.
Additionally, Mr. Asare encouraged newly trained teachers to embrace postings in rural communities, emphasizing that teaching in such areas should not be viewed as punishment. He underscored the importance of rural communities, primarily comprised of farmers, in contributing to the nation’s food production and overall economic prosperity.
Mr. Asare extended his congratulations to Ghanaian teachers, particularly those in rural and underserved communities, for their dedication and hard work in advancing the education of young people, thus fostering the country’s development.
He called on the government to provide necessary support and incentives to teachers willingly accepting postings in remote areas, aiming to motivate them to deliver their best. Additionally, he stressed the importance of infrastructure and logistics provision to enhance the quality of education delivery in rural and remote communities.
