President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey has announced that the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria has resulted in 912 fatalities and 5,383 injuries, with 2,818 buildings being destroyed. He described the earthquake as the largest disaster in the country since 1939. The President also acknowledged the support of 45 countries who have offered assistance with rescue efforts and search for victims.
