On March 15, 2023, a High Court delivered a verdict on a defamation case involving Anas Aremeyaw Anas, an investigative journalist, and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a Member of Parliament for Assin Central. The ruling prompted many Ghanaians to take to social media to share their reactions.
Anas Aremeyaw Anas had filed the case in 2018, seeking GH¢25 million in monetary damages and other reliefs. However, the Accra High Court dismissed the suit and awarded Kennedy Ohene Agyapong a sum of 50,000 Ghana cedis to cover his legal costs.
Justice Eric Baah, who presided over the case, acknowledged that some of the statements made by Kennedy Ohene Agyapong against Anas Aremeyaw Anas could be seen as defamatory. Nonetheless, the judge ruled that the comments were factual and fair, leading to the dismissal of the suit
