On Friday, a soldier affiliated with the 48 Engineer Regiment in Accra reportedly took his own life. Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Sapak Dickson was discovered lifeless, hanging from an electrical cable in the Unit’s guard room. The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) officially confirmed this tragic incident in a statement issued on Friday, October 13, 2023.
According to the GAF, a preliminary investigative report revealed that the soldier was the subject of an ongoing investigation regarding multiple fraud cases. On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at approximately 19:30 hours, he was placed in close custody based on a report regarding his involvement in defrauding a Defense Civilian Staff member. Following this, a joint team from the Ghana Military Police and the Teshie Divisional Police Headquarters’ CID personnel was dispatched to the scene to conduct further investigations.
The GAF announced that the soldier’s body had been transferred to the 37 Military Hospital mortuary. They also expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, friends, and loved ones of the deceased soldier.
