A large number of supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have occupied the party’s premises to accompany their preferred candidate, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, as he picked up nomination forms for the party’s flagbearer position. Dr. Duffour, a former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, has declared his intention to contest for the position.
The party supporters, who are believed to be in Dr. Duffour’s camp, arrived at the NDC headquarters dressed in party colours and carrying placards bearing his image. They chanted and sang in support of their candidate while one of the party’s theme songs played in the background.
However, Dr. Duffour did not personally pick up the forms. Instead, he sent his spokesperson and the Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser of the NDC, Gloria Huze, to collect the forms on his behalf.
The collection of nomination forms began on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, with representatives of other candidates, including former President John Dramani Mahama, former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu, and businessman Ernest Kwaku Korbeah, also picking up forms.
The forms cost 30,000 Ghana Cedis, and candidates must fill them and return them to the party’s Elections Committee. The committee will then vet the candidates, and those who receive approval can begin campaigning. Kakra Essamuah, the Chairman of the Elections Committee, reiterated this process.
