The selection of a vice presidential candidate for a political party like the NPP is a serious business. One that needs deep thinking and analysis. To me, the vice presidential candidate:

  1. Should be someone who knows the party and is known by the party. I mean someone who understands the philosophy of the party and has contributed immensely to the development of the party in diverse ways, amd same acknowledged by the party.
  2. The preferred candidate must be influential in his/her constituency and region at large. S/he must command respect in his or her region, and should be someone the key decision making hierarchy in the region accepts and respects.
  3. The candidate must have a proven track record as a competent leader. S/he must be someone who has distinguished himself/herself creditably well in whatever capacity, position s/he has occupied; government or private.
  4. The candidate must be from a region the party in its analysis consider crucial for our victory. S/he must come a region that will help us consolidate our electoral gains in our stronghold or be from a region that the party wants to make inroads against the opposition. That is, the candidate must provide a balance to the ticket.
  5. The candidate should be someone with no bad records in public/private service, especially on corruption.

To me, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh possess these and even more. And I believe he will bring the needed balance to the ticket. He is the best belt as a vice presidential candidate for the party.

  1. Aside from coming from the Ashanti Region, he is also from Manhyia. A strong decision making hierarchy in Ashanti and Ghana at large. This is an added advantage he brings to the ticket.
  2. Dr. Prempeh has distinguished himself very in all the positions he has occupied. One of the best Ministers of Education we have had for some time now. He led a lot of reforms in the Ministry of Education and has received a lot of awards and recognitions nationally and globally. He has done awesomely well at the Ministry of Energy as well.
  3. Just like the presidential candidate, Dr. Prempeh has never been involved in any corrupt deal. He has acted professionally in all his offices. And this a positive addition to the ticket.
  4. Like the presidential candidate, Dr. Prempeh believes in the youth and has supported the youth in the party. He has given many young talents, near and far, opportunities to shine and live their dreams.
