Three employees of Fairway Super Market are currently on trial for allegedly stealing GH¢1 million from their employer and deleting corresponding invoices from the Point of Sale (POS) receipts, as reported by the Chronicles Newspaper on June 12, 2023. The accused individuals, named Priscilla Ocean Azadegbe, Blessed Dogbe, and Esther Baba, have pleaded not guilty to the charges of stealing. Priscilla is accused of misappropriating GH¢183,778.06, Blessed GH¢118,791.55, and Esther GH¢33,685.05 between January and April 2023.
The presiding judge, Joojo Amoah Hagan, granted bail to the accused individuals. Priscilla was granted GH¢200,000 bail, while Blessed and Esther were granted GH¢150,000 and GH¢40,000 bail, respectively. The bail amounts required sureties to be justified, including landed property.
Prince Nii Tackie, the Human Resource Manager of the supermarket, is the complainant in the case. The theft was discovered by the supermarket’s management, who reported to the police on May 5, 2023. They found that over GH¢1 million was missing from their records between August 2022 and April 2023. The theft was revealed through CCTV footage, which showed the accused individuals stealing money on a daily basis.
During the investigation, the accused confessed to taking some of the money but claimed they didn’t steal the full amount distributed by management. The accused individuals were given police investigation bail while further investigations were ongoing. It was found that the accused had deleted invoices on the POS machine that matched the amounts they had stolen. Invoices totaling GH¢541,643.03 were deleted between January and April 2023.
The accused individuals had stored some of the stolen money in their bank accounts and mobile wallets. Efforts were being made to gather more information about these accounts and recover the stolen funds. The trial is ongoing, and more details will likely emerge as the proceedings continue.
