Tragic Incident in Odumase: Two Bodies Recovered from Illegal Mining Pit in the Ashanti Region

Fatalities Reported in Illegal Mining Pit Collapse in Ashanti Region

Tragedy struck in Odumase near Konongo in the Asante Akim Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region as the bodies of two male adults were recovered from an illegal mining pit. Initially, reports indicated that three miners were trapped, but fortunately, one individual managed to escape while the other two sadly lost their lives.

Authorities from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Municipality have confirmed that the incident occurred when the pit collapsed while the illegal miners were inside, actively searching for gold deposits.

To retrieve the bodies, NADMO officials collaborated with an excavator operator and local community members. Through their combined efforts, the bodies were successfully recovered from the mining pit.

Jones Osei Asamoah, the Asante Akim Central Municipal NADMO Director, has reported that the bodies have been transferred to the morgue for further examination and identification processes.
