Vice President Bawumia expresses shock and pays tribute to the late Deputy Finance Minister Akoto Osei”

Former Member of Parliament for Old Tafo and deputy finance minister, Dr. Anthony Osei Akoto, has passed away at the age of 64, according to a post on Parliament’s official Facebook page. Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia expressed shock at the news and described Dr. Akoto Osei as a dedicated public servant whose commitment to Ghana’s development was unwavering.

Dr. Akoto Osei served in former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s cabinet as Minister of State for Finance and Economic Planning and had previously been deputy minister for the same sector. He was also a former MP for the Old Tafo Constituency, where he served as Ranking Member for the Committee on Finance and a member of the Interior and Defence committees of Parliament.

Dr. Akoto Osei held a PhD from Howard University, a Master of Arts degree in Applied Economics from the American University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Oberlin College. He was also a former Associate Professor at Dollard University and had worked as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Policy Analysis in Ghana. Prior to his passing, he was serving as Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s cabinet
