Following previous warnings, the Ashanti Kingdom’s paramount ruler, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has removed Baffour Adugyemfuo Kumani, the Chief of Kwapra in the Ashanti Region. The directive for Baffour Adugyemfuo Kumani’s dethronement was issued during a session of the Asantemen Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace on December 11, 2023.
In October, the Asantehene summoned Kwaprahene, expressing intentions to end Baffour Adugyemfuo Kumani’s reign due to allegations of double land sales and violations of the Great Ashanti Oath (Ntamkese). Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, addressing the matter, stated, “Kwaprahene knows why I’m looking for him…he thinks he is smarter than me.” The Asantehene recalled past land disputes and emphasized his unwillingness to accept excuses.
Furthermore, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II criticized Kwapra’s kingmakers for not advising Baffour Adugyemfuo Kumani appropriately, stating, “I have always cautioned you against his excesses.” Reports indicate that Baffour Adugyemfuo Kumani did not attend the Asantehene’s summons.
In addition to ordering rituals for Kwaprahene’s removal, Otumfuo also destooled several sub-chiefs associated with Kwaprahene, citing their failure to offer wise counsel. The Asantehene invited individuals with land issues in Kwapra to bring their concerns before him, pledging to address and resolve such matters.
