The final funeral ceremonies for the late paramount chief of Berekum Traditional Area, Daasebre Dr. Amankona Diawuo II, are underway today, November 23, 2023. As part of the proceedings, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is anticipated to participate in the burial ceremony, acknowledging his role as the overlord and kingmaker of the Berekum Traditional Area, despite its location in the Bono Region. A video from Opemsuo Radio captured the departure of the Ashanti overlord and his entourage from the Manhyia Palace to Berekum. The impressive convoy included over 30 vehicles, comprising at least 20 Toyota Land Cruisers, one Range Rover, and two Toyota Tundras, escorted by police motor riders and vehicles. Prior to the Asantehene’s convoy, more than 10 VIP buses had already left the palace for Berekum. However, an injunction from the Sunyani High Court reportedly prevents the Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Nana Agyeman Badu, from participating in the burial rites. This legal intervention, initiated by Osabarima Kyere Yeboah Darteh II of the Berekum Traditional Council, aims to prevent potential disruptions to peace arising from conflicting attendance plans during the burial. The court’s decision is believed to be a response to concerns about possible clashes, particularly due to the Dormaahene’s intention to attend the burial concurrently with the Asantehene.
